» sophia0202 - Amish School Shooting

I just read the article you wrote on the Amish school shooting and you were absolutely right on!! the media does feed the frenzy of violence.

When I heard the news of what happened in a quiet little area of Amish Country I was flabbergasted!! Of all people for something as a school shooting to happen to. It was heart wrenching, but their way of handing it was know surprise to me or my husband. Being of Amish decent we could understand their humility and the forgiveness they have shown. That is truly the way the Amish live.

I was angered by the influx of media - worldwide - and the fact they wanted to know every detail. I do have to give a lot of credit to the Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner for the way he handle the situation. He gave the details of what took place at the school in order to protect the Amish families from the prying media. He knew that if he didn't explain the events of the day that the media would stay around and hassle the Amish and the families that were involved. He was familiar with the Amish culture and how they shy away from publicity, even when it's the normal tourist that go to Lancaster County every day to see their way of life. he protected them the best way he could, even by arranging to have state police protect the amish from the media during the funerals.

the schoolhouse has been torn down and grassseed has been planted. the Amish children who witnessed the event are back in school, but their lives are forever changed. And even now, when i go to Lancaster County to shop where I've done so many times and smiled at the Amish and respected their way, i am changed. I will never again be able to shop there without being reminded of what took place two weeks ago.
